My Bio...

I would like to introduce myself as Shrinivas Sharangpani, born in Ratnagiri, a coastal town in Maharashtra, India and at present working in a large automobile manufacturing company in Pune, India. I have worked in various capacities as a metallurgist, value engineer and in areas like prototype planning and manufacturing, quality assurance, troubleshooting and project planning.

  • I spent some of my childhood in Ratnagiri, Maharashtra, India. Our family shifted to Pune where I stay now. My father was an amazing person. He became completely blind during his youth but became a successful teacher. He taught English and was the only professor to privately coach students for MA in English. He himself was an MA in English and so was my mother. He supported our family successfully in spite of his disability and made me and my brother and sisters tough. My father died in 1978 at the age of  67 and my mother passed away in 2001 at the ripe age of  84. Both have left an immense mark on me. It was through them I was introduced to literature and English literature in particular. Looking at their awesome power of writing, I decided to become a writer too.
  • I did my graduation in Metallurgical Engineering from MS University of Baroda (now called Vadodara) in 1972. After working in Bajaj Tempo Ltd. (now called Force Motors Ltd.) for three and a half years I joined TATA Motors Ltd., Pimpri Pune and working there till date. Large part of my stint has been in Engineering Research Centre of TATA Motors.
  • My both sisters are happily married and stay in Pune. My brother Divakar became an electronics engineer and set up a unit manufacturing control instruments. Unfortunately he died in 1999 and his business is now looked after by his wife Swati and my brother's business partners. Divakar and Swati raised wonderful twins Shounak (boy) and Aditi (girl) who love me and my wife enormously.
  • All of us have traveled a lot. My wife and I have traveled across most of India. We have been to Southeast Asia and Europe together. My son Siddharth works as a software engineer and has traveled to UK, US and Europe. I have myself traveled a lot in Europe and US on my company duty. Needless to say, I have friends all across the world. Son siddharth and his wife Bhagyashri have founded a company Bhasha Technologies Pvt. Ltd. which makes electronic control devices, deals in software, translations and odd things like hydroponics.
  • I work in Tata Motors Ltd., Pune in its Engineering Research Centre Division (ERC). I help develop new vehicles. I am head of a department called Learning Centre which comprises of Knowledge Centre, Teardown and Benchmark Centre and Innovation Centre sections in ERC. Among other things I write fiction, sci-fi, poetry--including lyrics and paint and draw a bit.
  • I am an innovator, inventor and have been awarded a patent on Process for Making a Mirror-like Reflective Coating on Articles by the Patents Office, Govt. of India. A few other patents have been applied for and awaiting award.
  • I shall be superannuating from TATA Motors Ltd in October 2009.
